Rock, blues & pop guitar lessons

Go beyond learning songs. Build the technique, feel and theory behind rock, blues and pop so you can play and create with real expression.

Rock, blues and pop guitar lessons in Enfield and North London. Build rhythm, lead technique and improvisation with Andrew, in his home studio or at your home.

What we work on

Rock, blues and pop are where I live. I’ve spent over ten years performing in bands, gigging and recording, and that experience in the real world goes straight into your lessons. We work on the things that make these styles sing: timing and feel, rhythm and lead technique, bends and vibrato, and the chords and scales that hold it all together.

My aim is to help you move beyond simply learning songs to understanding the guitar as a tool for creativity, confidence and genuine musical expression, so you can improvise, write and make the music your own.

Support between lessons

Lessons include backing tracks, progress notes, homework, chord and fretboard diagrams, and tablature to support your practice between lessons.

Lessons in Enfield and North London

I teach in my home studio in Enfield and can travel to students across North London. Lessons are tailored to you, whether you are a complete beginner or a returning player.

Lessons are £30 for 30 minutes or £55 for an hour. Lessons of 45 minutes are also available; please ask for the price. Home visits cost an additional £10 within a reasonable distance. Include your area when you enquire so we can agree the arrangements before booking.

Starting with blues guitar

If blues is what brought you here, I’ve written a guide to learning blues guitar as a beginner, covering what to learn first and what actually makes it sound like blues rather than just the right notes.

Common questions

How quickly will I be able to play a song?

Sooner than you’d think. Many students play a recognisable song or riff in their very first lesson. Lessons are built around making music straight away, so it never feels like a chore.

Do you teach complete beginners?

Absolutely. Beginners are a big part of what I do. I teach children from age 6 and adults, from those who’ve never held a guitar to returning players picking it back up.

What ages do you teach?

All ages. Children from age 6 right through to adults of any age. Lessons are always tailored to the individual student.

Do you prepare students for exams?

Yes. I prepare students for both Trinity Rock & Pop and RSL (Rockschool) guitar exams, up to Grade 8, which is the grade I hold myself. Exams are optional and we only enter when you’re ready.

How much do lessons cost?

Lessons are £55 for an hour and £30 for 30 minutes. Lessons of 45 minutes are also available; please ask for the price. Home visits cost an additional £10 within a reasonable distance; please confirm your area before booking. I am not VAT registered, so no VAT is added. Payment is by bank transfer, and I ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson.

Where do lessons take place?

At my home studio in Enfield Town, about a 10-minute walk from Enfield Town station. There is on-street parking on the road opposite; please check local signs for restrictions or charges. I also travel to students in Enfield, Winchmore Hill, Southgate, Palmers Green and nearby areas. Home visits cost an additional £10 within a reasonable distance; include your area when you enquire so we can agree the arrangements before booking. Lessons are by appointment.

What styles do you teach?

Mainly rock, blues and pop, plus the technique and music theory underneath them. Having performed in bands for over ten years, I teach these styles from real playing experience.

What’s included with lessons?

Backing tracks, progress notes, homework, chord and fretboard diagrams, and tablature. These give you what you need to make the most of your practice between lessons.

Do I need my own guitar?

Ideally yes, so you can practise at home between lessons. That’s where the real progress happens. If you’re not sure what to buy, I’m happy to advise on a suitable first guitar before you spend anything.
