Beginner guitar lessons

Never picked up a guitar? Start here. Tailored lessons taught one to one that get you playing real music from the very first session.

Beginner guitar lessons in Enfield and North London for children and adults who have never played before. Taught one to one, tailored to you, and built so you can play a recognisable song or riff in your first lesson.

Starting from scratch is the best part, and it’s where I do my favourite work. Beginner lessons are completely tailored to you: we build the right habits early (how you hold the guitar, how you change chords cleanly, how you keep time) while making real music straight away, so it never feels like a chore.

Many students play a recognisable song or riff in their very first lesson. From there we move at your pace, through your first chords and strumming patterns into songs you actually want to play. You’ll get backing tracks, chord and fretboard diagrams, progress notes and homework after every lesson so you always know what to practise.

Common questions

How quickly will I be able to play a song?

Sooner than you’d think. Many students play a recognisable song or riff in their very first lesson. Lessons are built around making music straight away, so it never feels like a chore.

Do you teach complete beginners?

Absolutely. Beginners are a big part of what I do. I teach children from age 6 and adults, from those who’ve never held a guitar to returning players picking it back up.

What ages do you teach?

All ages. Children from age 6 right through to adults of any age. Lessons are always tailored to the individual student.

Do you prepare students for exams?

Yes. I prepare students for both Trinity Rock & Pop and RSL (Rockschool) guitar exams, up to Grade 8, which is the grade I hold myself. Exams are optional and we only enter when you’re ready.

How much do lessons cost?

Lessons are £55 for an hour and £30 for 30 minutes. Lessons of 45 minutes are also available; please ask for the price. Home visits cost an additional £10 within a reasonable distance; please confirm your area before booking. I am not VAT registered, so no VAT is added. Payment is by bank transfer, and I ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or rearrange a lesson.

Where do lessons take place?

At my home studio in Enfield Town, about a 10-minute walk from Enfield Town station. There is on-street parking on the road opposite; please check local signs for restrictions or charges. I also travel to students in Enfield, Winchmore Hill, Southgate, Palmers Green and nearby areas. Home visits cost an additional £10 within a reasonable distance; include your area when you enquire so we can agree the arrangements before booking. Lessons are by appointment.

What styles do you teach?

Mainly rock, blues and pop, plus the technique and music theory underneath them. Having performed in bands for over ten years, I teach these styles from real playing experience.

What’s included with lessons?

Backing tracks, progress notes, homework, chord and fretboard diagrams, and tablature. These give you what you need to make the most of your practice between lessons.

Do I need my own guitar?

Ideally yes, so you can practise at home between lessons. That’s where the real progress happens. If you’re not sure what to buy, I’m happy to advise on a suitable first guitar before you spend anything.
