Children learn best when they’re enjoying themselves. Lessons for younger students (from age 6) build confidence through short, achievable goals, songs they recognise and lots of encouragement. We develop proper technique and musical understanding along the way.
A parent is welcome to sit in if that helps your child feel comfortable. After each lesson you’ll get progress notes and simple homework, so practising at home is clear and relaxed. For children who want to take it further, we can work towards Trinity Rock & Pop and RSL exams.
Guitar lessons for children aged 6 to 11, alongside primary school music
At Key Stage 2 (ages 7 to 11), the national curriculum asks children to "play and perform in solo and ensemble contexts" with "increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression". One-to-one guitar lessons give your child real playing confidence alongside their school music. I already teach young students, starting from age 6.
What age can a child start guitar lessons?
Many children start from age 6. My guide What age can a child start guitar lessons? explains how to tell if your child is ready.
Are guitar lessons good for a 7 year old?
Yes. At 7, lessons build on short, achievable goals and songs your child knows, so they make steady progress and enjoy it.
Are you DBS checked?
Yes. I'm DBS checked, and happy to show parents the original certificate.
Older children studying music at school can also get help with GCSE Music.
